ABILITY – The talent-level a person possesses.
ABSORBED To be totally focused on something.
ABUELITA The Spanish word for “grandmother.”
ACCIDENTALLY – Not intended or done on purpose.
ADJOINING – Next to each another, such as two objects side-by-side.
ADJUSTED – To move into position or fix.
ADMITTED – To be open and honest.
ADRENALINE A hormone that the body produces in times of physical stress.
AFFECTIONATE – Tender feelings or emotions.
AGGRESSIVENESS – To act harshly or boldly.
ALTERCATION – A fight.
ANNOUNCED PROUDLY – To speak with pride.
ANNOUNCEMENT – To announce something.
ANONYMOUS CALLER – Someone whose identity is unknown.
ANXIOUS – To act in an excited manner.
APPRECIATED – To be thankful for something.

AY, DIOS MIO – The Spanish words for “Oh, my God.”
BARRIO – The Spanish word for “neighborhood”. Usually in reference to a poorer area, district, or slum.

BEHOLDER – A person observing something.
BID – A suggestion to do something.
BLOODSHOT – Eyes that appear tired, swollen, and red.
BLURTED – To speak in a sudden and loud manner.
BOBBED – To make quick, jerky motions of the head and upper body.
BOOZE – An alcoholic beverage or liquor.
BORRACHO – The Spanish word for a drunken person.
BRACING – To prepare for something that’s about to happen.
BURST – To come on quickly and suddenly.
CAGY – To be tricky, cunning, and careful.
CALLOUS – A thick or hardened layer of skin.

CHAOS – When everything is turned upside down and there is great confusion.

FOE – An opponent, or someone who opposes you.
FRAIL – Weak.
FRANTICALLY – To move quickly and out of fear.
FUNCTIONING – Working or operating properly.
GAWKING – To stare in a stupid manner.
GLANCING – To cast a quick look.
GLARED – To stare in an angry manner.
GLEAMING – Shining.
GRAZE – In indirect hit or glancing blow.
GREETED – Welcomed.
GROGGILY – In a sleepy or tired state.
GROWLED To express anger and surprise by yelling.
HALLELUJAH – An excited expression of praise.
HANDSOME – Good-looking or pleasing in appearance.
HARDHEADED – To be stubborn.
HAUNTED LOOK – A look of great concern and worry.
HEADGEAR – Padded boxing equipment worn over the head to offer protection.
HEART AND DESIRE – A person’s will to overcome and succeed at something.
HEART SINK – To feel great sadness and hopelessness.
HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS – Best wishes delivered in an excited way.
HERMANO – The Spanish word for “brother”.
HESITATED – To pause momentarily.
HIGH-TAIL OUT – To leave quickly and abruptly.
HOBBIT PEOPLE – A race of smallish people in J.R.R. Tolkien’s “Lord of the Ring” series and “The Hobbit”.
HOLLERED – To yell.
HOMEBOYS – A certain group of boys, oftentimes affiliated with gangs.
HOOK – A powerful punch delivered with a bent elbow.
JACKHAMMER A steady punching effect, similar to that found in the hand-held machine used to punch through concrete.
IGNITED – To start.
IGNORED – To pay no attention to someone or something.
ILLUMINATED – To light up something.
IMMEDIATELY – In a sudden manner.
INCIDENT – An occurrence of some sort.
INDICATED – To point out something.
INEXPERIENCE – Lack of background or familiarity with something.
INTERRUPTED – To cut in on something, like a conversation.
IRRITATED – To be angry or annoyed.
JAB – A punch intended to be quick and disruptive, but not necessarily powerful.
JOTTING – To write or make note of something, as on a piece of paper.
JUSTIFYING – Making an excuse for an action or decision.
KIDNEY – An internal organ in the body.
KNELT – To kneel down.
LABORING – To work hard or strain.
LABORING TO BREATHE – To find it difficult to draw breaths.
LAME – To be foolish.
LATINA – The Spanish word for a Hispanic girl.
LIMP – To become lifeless.
LITTLE RUNT – An endearing term for a small child.
MAGNIFICO – The Spanish word for “magnificent”.
MANOS DE PIERDRA The Spanish words for “Hands of stone”.
MARIACHI BAND – Mexican band members; usually composed of string and horn sections.
MANUSCRIPT – Written materials, such as a book, novel, or documents.

MENTION – A brief statement.

MIXING IT UP – Involvement in an altercation or fight.
MOMENTARILY – A very brief period of time.
MOUTHPIECE – A piece of hard rubber placed inside the mouth to offer protection, such as in a boxing match.
MULLING AROUND – To wander and wait.
MUTTERED – To speak in a low tone.
NARROWLY – A near-miss or close call. 
NICKNAME – An affectionate name used instead of a real name.
NUMBLY – Shocked and confused.
OCCASIONAL Something that occurs once in a while or infrequently.
OPPONENT – A rival or competitor.
OVERTOOK – To defeat another, or win.
PANTING – To breath quickly.
PARRIED – A ward off or deflect, as with boxing blows.
PELON – The Spanish word for bald.
PHYSICAL TOOLS – The physical ability that someone possesses, such as strength and speed.
PISTON – A metal rod that fires back and forth in an engine with great force.
PLANTING  – The act of placing something on someone, such as a kiss.
POLITELY – Something done in a proper manner or with kindness.
POUNCED – To attack or leap on.
PRACTICALLY – Meaning “almost” or “nearly”.
PREP – Short for prepare.
PRESS – To attack without letting up.
PRETEND – Something that is fake or not intended as real.
PRIED – To examine or question.
PROTESTED – To object to something.
PROVIDING – Meeting needs or requirements.
QUOTE – Words someone has said that have been repeated over and over again.
RACIALLY MOTIVATED – Stemming from racial discrimination or bias.
RAVED To say something with a lot of energy.
REACTION – Response to something.
REARRANGING – Moving, relocating, or shifting something around.
REASSURING – Comforting or calm.
RECITAL – A public performance such as a dance or musical.
RECYCLABLE – Items intended for recycling such as aluminum cans or plastic bottles.
REEKED – A terrible smell.
REELED – To recall or remember.
REGIONAL – An area or district.
REGRET – Sorrow or disappointment.
RELIVING – To recall or remember a past event.
REMINISCED To think back on and remember or recall.
RESENTFUL – Angry or bitter.
RIGHT-CROSS – A powerful punch where the right hand is thrown over the opponents left arm.
ROADWORK – Long distance running for the purpose of conditioning.
ROARED – An angry threat.
SAILING – To miss.
SCAR TISSUE – Skin that is thickened as a result of repeated cuts.
SCARECROW – A straw figure intended to scare off birds.
SCRAPED – To scratch or remove.
SCREECHING – The sound tires make when a vehicle accelerates quickly.
SCREECHING HALT – The sound tires make when a vehicle comes to a sudden stop.
SEESAW – Back and forth action.
SHADY TOWN BANDITS – The name of a fictional gang composed of black members.
SHAKEDOWN – To rob or steal.
SHANKED – To stab or slice with a sharp object, such as a knife.
SHOVED – To push hard.
SHRUGGED – To raise the shoulders slightly.
SINKING FEELING – To feel deep despair as if something bad is about to happen.
SLACKING – To ease up or relax.
SLIPPED – Various meanings: 1) To remove an object; 2) To move away from something; 3) To advance toward; 4) To put something on. 
SNATCHED – To take away quickly.
SOB HEAVILY – To cry hard in a very emotional manner.
SOUTHPAW – Someone who is left-handed.
SPARRING SESSION – A boxing match that takes place in the gym as a means of preparing for an actual fight.
SPEAKER-SYSTEM – An audio system designed to make announcements.
STAGGERED – To stumble and nearly fall.
STARTLE – To surprise.
STERN FACE – A serious facial expression.
STOKED – To be happy about something.
STRAIGHT-RIGHT – A punch where the right hand is extended straight out at an opponent.
STRAINING – Laboring.
STREAKS – Lines or stripes.
STROLLING – To walk in a casual manner.
STRUCTURE – A shelter.
STUBBORN – Someone who wants things their own way.
STUNNED – Shocked and surprised.
SUGGESTED – To recommend.
SUPERFICIAL WOUND – A wound that is not serious.
SURVIVAL MODE – The act of surviving at any cost.
SUSPICIOUSLY – Without trust.
SUSTAINED – To receive.
SWATTED – To knock away.
SWOLLEN – An area of the body that is red and bloated.
TENDERLY – With care and affection.
THREATENED – To be challenged.
TIDE – A change of direction.
TIO – The Spanish word for “uncle”.
TOLL – To have an affect over time.
TORSO – The trunk of the human body, such as the chest and stomach.
UNDIVIDED ATTENTION – To be totally focused.
UNUSUAL – Something not right or common.
UPPERCUT – A punch that is delivered in an upward motion.
VAQUERO LOCO GANG – The name of a fictional gang composed of Hispanic members.
VATO – The Spanish word for “dude”.
VISIBLE – Something that can be seen.
VISUAL – To see something clearly.
WAGED – To carry out something, such as a war.
WARNED – To caution against.
WEAVED – A defensive tactic used in boxing to slip underneath punches––usually by moving the upper-body from left to right repeatedly.
WELT – A wound that forms a small lump.
WHAPPING – To punch or strike.
WONDERED – To think about or consider.
ZONE A mind-set where the person is extremely focused on a task.
